At least 300 people were left stranded on Thursday as heavy flooding triggered by continuous rain swept through parts of Jhelum.

Among those trapped were the Station House Officer (SHO) of Chautala police station and five other officials who sought refuge on a tractor trolley but remained stuck for several hours due to the intense flow of water.

Rescue efforts were severely hampered by relentless rainfall and strong winds. One police constable was swept away in the floodwaters.

The police team was eventually rescued by emergency personnel after strenuous efforts.

According to officials, the force of the floodwaters made it extremely challenging for rescue teams to reach the stranded officers.

A state of emergency has been declared in the affected region, and the authorities have urged residents to avoid venturing near flood-prone or low-lying areas.

Widespread flooding has been reported in several parts of Jhelum and surrounding areas following days of persistent rain.

Officials have warned that the situation may deteriorate further if weather conditions do not improve. Rescue teams remain on high alert as evacuation and relief operations continue.
