Pakistan has inked a contract for the sale of JF-17 Block-III fighter aircraft to enhance Azerbaijan’s airpower capabilities.
During a recent visit to Pakistan, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan was briefed on the combat capabilities and versatile operational uses of the JF-17 Block-III fighter jets.
Following his visit, and at the request of the Azerbaijani government, Pakistan deployed a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) contingent to Baku for ADEX-2024.
The deployment featured both an aerial display and a static exhibition of the JF-17 Thunder Block-III, which has become a symbol of Pakistan's aerospace achievements.
During the deployment, the JF-17 showcased its long-range capability by completing an air-to-air refueling mission, facilitated by the PAF’s Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft, allowing the fighter jet to travel directly to Baku in a single hop.
President Aliyev later visited the static display of the JF-17 Block-III and observed an impressive aerial demonstration that highlighted the jet’s agility and maneuverability, as well as the skill of PAF pilots.
The JF-17 Thunder Block-III is equipped with AESA radar and long-range Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles, making it a 4.5 generation multi-role fighter aircraft capable of performing a wide range of combat missions. Its advanced capabilities provide Azerbaijan with modern airpower options, enhancing its national security.
President Aliyev expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support, noting that this collaboration would further solidify the military ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, fostering closer defense cooperation and strengthening the already warm relationship between the two nations.
