Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, is being observed with solemnity and deep religious devotion across Pakistan today, in commemoration of the unparalleled sacrifice made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in the historic Battle of Karbala.
This sacred day marks the unwavering courage and resilience of the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) beloved grandson, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), along with his family and followers, who embraced martyrdom while standing against tyranny and upholding the values of justice and truth in Islam.
Mourning processions are being held in cities and towns nationwide, where participants are paying tribute to the martyrs through various mourning rituals, including matam, nohas, and majalis.
To ensure public safety and maintain law and order, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place.
The Ministry of Interior had earlier approved the deployment of Pakistan Army and civil armed forces (CAFs) across the country to support local administrations during the holy month of Muharram.
As part of these security measures, mobile phone and internet services remain suspended in several sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incident.

Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar, holds special significance in Islam.
The 1st of Muharram also marks Youm-e-Umar, the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), the second Caliph of Islam, who was assassinated on 1 Muharram 23 AH (644 CE).
The 10th of Muharram, known as Ashura, stands out as a solemn reminder of the ultimate sacrifice offered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family members, and companions who were martyred in Karbala in 61 AH.
The day serves as a spiritual and historical milestone for Muslims worldwide, reinforcing the timeless message of standing firm against oppression and remaining steadfast in faith.
