In the wake of the recently brokered ceasefire, Pakistan has called for the United States to play a "constructive role" in achieving a lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in line with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan acknowledged and appreciated the positive role played by the United States and other friendly nations in facilitating the recent understanding that led to the de-escalation of tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
The ceasefire is seen as a step forward toward regional peace and stability.
The Foreign Office also expressed “appreciation for US President Donald Trump's willingness to support efforts aimed at resolving the Kashmir issue,” describing it as a decades-long conflict with serious implications for regional and global security.
"Pakistan reaffirms that any just and lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute must be in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and must ensure the realisation of the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people, including their inalienable right to self-determination," the statement read.

It is also optimistic for strengthening its multifaceted relationship with Washington, especially in trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
