The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a strong demarche against the Norwegian ambassador, criticizing their presence during the hearing of the Imaan Mazari case in Pakistan’s Supreme Court as interference in the country’s internal affairs.

According to the Foreign Office, the Norwegian ambassador’s attendance in the court on 11 November 2025 was not only beyond diplomatic limits but also constituted direct interference in Pakistan’s judicial process.

The action is considered a clear violation of Article 41 of the Vienna Convention 1961, which obligates diplomats to respect the laws of the host country and refrain from involvement in its internal matters.

The Foreign Office asserted that allowing a foreign diplomat to participate in such a sensitive and ongoing case could create an impression of influencing or affecting the judicial process, which is a serious breach of diplomatic responsibilities and international law.

The statement also noted that this is not the first such incident, pointing to evidence that various Norwegian NGOs, particularly those operating under the banner of human rights, have supported elements in Pakistan engaged in anti-state activities.

Following this highly irresponsible conduct, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan issued a formal demarche to the Norwegian ambassador and reiterated that it will not tolerate any interference in its internal affairs.
