Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially declared Friday, May 16, as Youm-e-Tashakur (Day of Gratitude) to honor Pakistan’s steadfast response to Indian aggression and to commemorate the successful execution of Operation Bunyan-e-Marsous. However, the government has not declared an official public holiday for the occasion.

The day is designated as a national expression of gratitude to Allah Almighty, a tribute to the valor and professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces, and a celebration of the nation's unity and resilience during a critical moment in its defense.

Observances will begin with recitation of the Holy Quran and special prayers after Fajr across mosques nationwide, seeking blessings for peace, security, and continued strength.

A 31-gun salute will be held in Islamabad, while 21-gun salutes will take place in all provincial capitals.

Ceremonial changes of guard are scheduled at the mausoleums of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal, symbolizing national reverence and patriotic pride.

Flag-hoisting ceremonies will be conducted in the federal and provincial capitals, accompanied by floral tributes at memorials honoring the martyrs of the armed forces.

Special prayer gatherings will be arranged across the country, and meetings will be held with families of the martyrs to recognize their immense sacrifice.

The central event of Youm-e-Tashakur will be held at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad on Friday night, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will serve as the chief guest.

He will be joined by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as national dignitaries, scholars, and representatives from various sectors of society.

The day aims to reinforce national solidarity, celebrate military achievement, and offer heartfelt prayers and gratitude for the country’s strength and sovereignty.
