In a gesture of humanitarian support, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has granted permission to 100 students from the occupied Palestinian territory of Gaza to pursue their education in the country.

The decision comes as the Israeli offensive in Gaza intensifies, with the Israeli army launching further attacks on residential areas and refugee camps.

More than 625,000 children in besieged Gaza have not attended school for more than eight months as Israel continues with its deadly attacks on the densely-populated enclave, according to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.

Pakistan has extended a helping hand to the students of Gaza, allowing them to pursue their medical studies on "humanitarian grounds".

"This is the need of the hour. Gaza students will have the chance to learn in a well-equipped environment, something they might lack due to the conflict,” the PMDC President said.

The department has assured all possible support to the students. The students will come to the country to receive education in batches of 20-30.

A dedicated committee will be formed to supervise the Palestinian students' smooth integration into the Pakistani medical education system.

In the last 24 hours, 60 more Palestinians have been killed, bringing the total to over 38,000 in the 9-month-long one-sided war.
