Following predictions of rain in the upcoming days, Karachi has begun to experience light showers, providing some relief from the intense heat the city has been enduring in anticipation of the monsoon season.

Several areas across Karachi, including North Karachi, New Karachi, North Nazimabad, Garden, Lyari, Saddar, the old-city areas, and Gulshan, were touched by these light rains.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that more rain or drizzle is likely in various parts of the city due to the presence of clouds in the north-eastern regions of Karachi.

As the city grapples with extreme heat, Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz has indicated that rain is expected to significantly impact the suburban areas of Karachi on June 22 or 23. Earlier in the day, Sarfaraz mentioned that rain was anticipated in areas surrounding the Super Highway, further suggesting that Sindh, including Karachi, could experience "more than normal" rainfall this season.

The weather in Sindh, particularly in Karachi, has remained dry and hot over the past few weeks. However, this dry spell has been interrupted as regions such as Larkana, Shikarpur, Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and other parts of the province experienced rain accompanied by thunderstorms today.

Moreover, Chief Meteorologist Sarfaraz has stated that the monsoon season is expected to commence in Sindh around July 5 or 6. In contrast, the monsoon rains are anticipated to begin in Punjab and Kashmir from June 29 or 30.

This shift in weather patterns marks the end of the prolonged dry period and ushers in a phase of much-needed rainfall, which is crucial for cooling down the region and supporting agricultural activities.

The onset of the monsoon is eagerly awaited as it brings respite from the scorching heat and rejuvenates the environment across the province.
