Philanthropist Sarim Burney arrested on human trafficking charges

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Thursday arrested renowned philanthropist Sarim Burney on the charges of human smuggling.

According to the sources, the humanitarian was arrested by the investigation body's Anti-Human and Trafficking police at Karachi airport.

Sources said Sarim Burney Trust International Chairman arrived in the country from the United States (US) when the law enforcers apprehended him.

"There are very serious charges of human trafficking against Saram Burney," sources added. 

FIA sources said that Burney's movements were being monitored by the investigation body for a long time.

The social worker was detained in a joint operation by FIA and the American agency.

However, no further details regarding the charges on the philanthropist were shared by FIA sources.
