A petition has been submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC) requesting an immediate prohibition on YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok.
As reported by the media, the petition was lodged by a citizen named Aslam, represented by Advocate Nadeem Sarwar, with the federal government and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) listed as respondents.
In the petition, the petitioner contended that a significant number of individuals in Pakistan operate YouTube channels, which are allegedly being utilized for extortion.
He asserted that immoral content is being uploaded to attract views and generate revenue, highlighting that videos can be posted on YouTube and Facebook without the necessity of licenses.
Furthermore, the petitioner claimed that misleading videos are being disseminated on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, with content creators featuring women from their homes in their vlogs, which he argues is detrimental to the family structure.
The citizen has urged the Lahore High Court to mandate the implementation of Citizen Protection Rules and to issue an order for the closure of all social media platforms.
