The federal government is mulling ending weekly offs on Saturdays in government offices, sources said on Tuesday.

According to the sources, the cabinet division has sought the opinion of all the ministries regarding ending the weekend holiday.

Following the suggestions, the federal body will decide whether Saturdays will be declared off or not in the public sector departments.

However, the decision will increase energy shortage in the already crisis-hit country.

Earlier in April 2022, the then-Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government abolished two weekly offs in a week for government offices.

The decision was aimed at increasing working hours for the public officers. But, the energy crisis hit Pakistan that had left the public to suffer hours-long load shedding.

Later in June, the government restored Saturday holidays in the country to deal with the energy crisis.
