Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has become the most-watched video on the UN’s official YouTube channel, with over 1.3 million views since it was uploaded on September 26.
According to viewership data on the UN’s channel, Shehbaz’s speech surpassed that of US President Donald Trump, whose September 23 address has drawn around 458,000 views. In third place is Thailand’s Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, whose September 27 address has received over 277,000 views.
In his wide-ranging speech, the Pakistani premier addressed several key international issues, including the conflict in Gaza, the Kashmir dispute with India, climate change, and global economic instability.
Shehbaz Sharif condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza, terming them a “systematic slaughter of innocent people” and a “stain on the world’s conscience,” while urging for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a sovereign Palestinian state.
On the Kashmir issue, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s long-standing stance, calling for a “just and lasting solution” in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions that grant Kashmiris the right to self-determination.
He also criticised India’s “illegal and unilateral” actions in the disputed region, saying they have heightened tensions.
