Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will highlight the Gaza ceasefire and Kashmir issue in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly and the UN-sponsored summit of the Future.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will host the summit on Sep 22 and 23, which aims to enhance engagement among the international stakeholders.
The global leaders’ speech at the UNGA will be held between Sep 24 to 28. PM Shehbaz will address the session on Sep 27 following the Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
PM Shehbaz's address will focus on the Gaza ceasefire and the disputed territory of Kashmir.
The premier is likely to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and advocate a need for a long-lasting solution.
Similarly, the prolonged dispute between Pakistan and India, the Kashmir issue would also be raised before the world’s leaders. PM Shehbaz will urge golbal leaders to implement the UN resolutions supporting the rights of people living in Kashmir.
Another issue for Pakistan is cross-border terrorism, which needs international attention, as the country has been facing it since the fall of Kabul, which is anticipated to be highlighted at the UNGA.
Pakistani PM will also call to eliminate cross-border terrorism, which is taking place in the country by using Afghanistan’s soil.
However, it would be the first UN General Assembly session since the Gaza war.
On the other hand, the future summit is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to seek an international consensus to address global challenges and ensure a sustainable future.
The summit will focus on the adoption of the Pact of Future, sustainable development, International peace and security, science and technology, and global governance.
Apart from international gatherings, Premier Shehbaz would also hold meetings with world leaders to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations with the countries.
