The meeting to elect the new President took place at a private hotel in Lahore.
Earlier, the PML-N had announced convening the general council meeting on May 11 for this purpose but it was postponed to coincide with the celebration of Youm-e-Takbeer.
On May 13, Shehbaz Sharif resigned as PML-N president to make way for elder Sharif to assume the office again after six years.
It's pertinent to mention here that Nawaz Sharif was disqualified as PML-N President in 2018 following his removal as prime minister in 2017 in Panama Papers under Article 62 and 63.
