Pakistanis are celebrating Youm-e-Takbeer today (May 28) to mark the 26th anniversary of historic nuclear tests conducted by Pakistan in 1998.
26 years ago on this day, Pakistan took the decision as a response and in self-defence to the nuclear tests accompanying hostile posturing by its neighbour, India.
Pakistan carried out five successful tests of its own in Balochistan's Chaghi followed by another one in Kharan on May 30.
Following the successful tests, Pakistan became the seventh nuclear-armed country in the world and the first in the Islamic world.
Paying tribute to the heroes of 1998 success, Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz (PML-N) made a video detailing world pressure on the country at the time of becoming a nuclear power.

In the video, the current ruling party lauded its supremo Nawaz Sharif, who was prime minister in 1998 and who gave a befitting reply to the world in order to restore the balance of power in the region.
However, PML-N forgot to mention renowned nuclear scientist and national icon Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan, who developed the Muslim world's first atomic bomb.
Dr AQ Khan is considered the father of Pakistan's nuclear programme. Dr Khan was the first Pakistani to be awarded three presidential awards. He was awarded the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Order of Excellence) twice and the Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Crescent of Excellence) once.
Khan passed away on October 10 in 2021 after his health deteriorated.
