Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar on Thursday claimed that some members from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) would not cast their vote in favour of constitutional amendments.
“Perhaps Chairman PPP [Bilawal Bhutto] knows that their members are not ready to cast their votes in favour of the 27th Constitutional amendments,” he said in an informal media talk, prior to the parliamentarian's meeting.
Barrister Gohar’s statement came after the claim of opposition leader, Omar Ayub, who accused the government of horse-trading.
“They are offering billions to opposition members for changing their loyalty,” Ayub claimed.
However, Barrister Gohar reiterated the party’s stance that the government has fewer numbers to approve the 27 constitutional amendments.
“I am saying confidently that seven MNAs will not vote for the bill,” he said while refuting the claims of full support by the lawmakers.
“The government has complete numbers in their books, neither they consulted with its members nor responding to the queries regarding the bill.
“Members of treasury benches said they would cast their vote in accordance with their conscience, whether they will be disqualified.”'
He said that Bilawal Bhutto also had an idea that his MNAs would not cast the vote for the constitutional amendment to transform practice and procedure laws pertaining to the judiciary.
The draft of the amendments is expected to be presented in the assembly on October 18.
