The opposition leader of the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, announced a boycott of the National Assembly proccedings until the release of former prime minister Imran Khan.

He called on the government to cease threatening tactics against the party leaders.

Deputy Speaker Mir Ghulam Mustafa presided over the National Assembly session, which was adjourned for 15 minutes just after beginning due to the incomplete quorum, but resumed after a short break.

Following the session, opposition leader Omar Ayub expressed frustration over the government’s action toward his party’s leaders and announced his decision to boycott the assembly session until the release of PTI founder and party workers.

“We will not be part of this session until Imran Khan and PTI workers are released. The continued threats against our members to resign must stop,” said Omar Ayub.

He accused the government of pressuring PTI leaders to resign from their assembly seats.

According to media reports, several opposition parties, except Jamiat Ulema Islam (F), were ready to support PTI’s boycott.

During the session, the opposition leader pointed out the absence of the Ministers and inquired why only one minister was present in the assembly, “Where are the other ministers? They should be here to answer the questions we have.”

Follwing the protest at D Cowk in November, and the withdrawal of call for civil disbobsdiecne movement, the boycott of parliament is part of efforts to secure the release of Imran Khan.
