Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) negotiation committee was granted permission to meet PTI founder Imran Khan, who is incarcerated at Adiala Jail, to deliberate on the ongoing talks with the government.
The committee will meet Khan on Thursday to brief him about the first round of talks held on Monday. They will also discuss the strategy for the next meeting, scheduled for January 2, during which PTI will submit its charter of demands.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui, a member of the government’s negotiation panel, confirmed that PTI had been given permission to meet Khan.
Following a prolonged feud, both parties have finally reached the negotiation table and are optimistic about positive outcomes.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed hope that the deliberations would promote peace and economic stability in Pakistan. He stated that a positive result could be achieved if both parties set aside their differences for the sake of the national interest.
“I do not doubt anyone’s intentions. I hope both PTI and the government will bring about the outcomes for the country’s benefits and promote economic stability,” PM Shehbaz in his opening remarks in the cabinet meeting.
“This is a good initiative of the National Assembly speaker. We will contribute with sincerity. But it takes two to tango. I hope both parties will play their part to serve the national interests and promote national stability,” the prime minister added.
