Punjab Assembly motion seeks details of CM Maryam’s London trip expenses

An adjournment motion has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly seeking details of alleged government expenditure incurred on Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s private visit to London.

The motion was submitted by independent MPA Waqas Mahmood Maan. According to its contents, the Punjab government’s official aircraft was allegedly used for the chief minister’s trip with Rs12.5 million reportedly spent from public exchequer on the aircraft.

The motion said that if the reports are accurate, the matter involved alleged personal use of public resources and misuse of authority.

The MPA said that the alleged use of government resources for a private trip was a matter of public concern. He sought clarification about the legal and administrative authority under which the government aircraft was used and asked under which head the expenses incurred on the aircraft were paid.

The lawmaker requested that the motion be admitted as a formal matter and debated on the floor of the provincial assembly. The development comes a day after Punjab Information Minister Azma Zahid Bokhari responded to reports about alleged government expenditure on CM Maryam Nawaz’s private London visit.

In an X post, she claimed that the chief minister paid all expenses of the aircraft out of her own pocket.
