Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Saturday announced that ration cards will be distributed among 1.25 million people across the province starting May 1.
Speaking at a ceremony in Lahore for the distribution of assistive devices and wheelchairs to persons with disabilities, the chief minister urged differently-abled individuals to register themselves on the Social Welfare Department’s portal to access government services and support.
She said the government is actively working to reach out to the people, adding, “It is encouraging that the direction of governance has changed — now the government comes to the people’s doorstep.”
Maryam Nawaz emphasised that when the state supports persons with disabilities, it significantly eases their challenges and promotes inclusivity.
While announcing the ration card initiative, she said the step would help families manage household expenses, especially in difficult economic times.
The chief minister also reiterated her administration's commitment to the welfare of underprivileged and marginalised segments of society, promising more initiatives aimed at social protection and economic relief.
