The Punjab government has officially decided to extend its laptop scheme to students of private universities for the first time. In the initial phase, 10,000 laptops will be distributed among eligible candidates.
Officials said the initiative aims to bridge the educational and digital gap between students of public and private universities in the province.
The Higher Education Department has confirmed that work on the scheme has begun and laptops will soon be distributed to qualified students.
Government sources clarified that there will be no changes in eligibility criteria, and students will be selected based on merit.
The scheme will include students enrolled in private universities in Punjab who have at least 70% marks or an equivalent CGPA and who did not receive a laptop in previous allocations.
A representative from the Punjab Higher Education Department said, “Our goal is to reduce the digital divide between public and private university students. Expanding this scheme ensures equal educational opportunities for all.”
Furthermore, specific quotas will be maintained for women, students with disabilities, and those from low-income families to ensure fair access to technological resources.
