Punjab governor takes responsibility of nine girls’ marriages after floods wash away dowries

Punjab Governor Saleem Haider visited Mohlanwal after reports emerged that the dowries of several girls had been washed away in the recent floods.
During his visit, the Governor met the affected family and assured them that he would personally take responsibility for arranging the marriages of nine girls.
Local residents also briefed him about the extent of destruction, showing how their homes had been submerged and belongings swept away.
Governor Saleem Haider expressed deep concern over the devastation caused by torrential rains and flooding across Punjab.
He said the scale of the disaster and the helplessness of people had left him sleepless, adding that many families had lost their homes and valuables, while some were forced to take shelter in graveyards.

He announced that flood-affected families would be provided with three meals a day and said medical camps would be set up by the Red Crescent to ensure healthcare support.
He stressed that this was a time to stand with the people, not play politics, and vowed that all available resources would be directed towards relief and rehabilitation.
The Governor also assured that tents and other immediate assistance would be provided to displaced families in Mohlanwal.
