The Punjab government has announced an ambitious plan to distribute 100,000 electric bicycles among students across the province to ease commuting difficulties and promote environmentally friendly transportation.

The announcement was made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif during a youth-focused event, where she reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering students through practical support and innovative initiatives.

According to the chief minister, the electric bike scheme is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving access to education while encouraging the use of sustainable and eco-friendly modes of transport.

The initiative is expected to benefit students enrolled in schools, colleges, and universities throughout Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz said the project would help address one of the major challenges faced by students — long and costly daily commutes — particularly for those travelling significant distances to reach their educational institutions.

“The government is taking concrete steps to facilitate students and provide them with modern solutions that support both education and environmental protection,” she said.

In addition to the electric bike programme, the Punjab government is rolling out several youth-centric initiatives focused on education, technology, and skills development.

The projects aim to prepare young people for future challenges and strengthen their role in the province’s economic and social development.

The chief minister emphasised that investing in youth is essential for long-term progress, noting that students represent a key driving force behind Punjab’s future growth.
