The Punjab government has announced a new speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour for motorcycles across the province in a bid to enhance road safety.

The decision, which was made during the 22nd Provincial Cabinet meeting on January 14, 2025, aims to curb accidents involving motorcycles, which are a significant concern in the region.

The speed limit has been set under Section 75(2) of the Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1960.

A notification issued by the Transport and Mass Transit Department, signed by Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch, directs authorities such as the Additional Inspector General of Police (Traffic) and district traffic officers to enforce the new limit strictly.

The Punjab Emergency Services Department has been instructed to submit fortnightly reports on motorcycle crashes to the Chief Minister’s Office for evaluation.

To ensure the public is informed, the provincial government has called for widespread publicity of the new speed limit.

By raising awareness, officials hope to encourage compliance and reduce motorcycle-related accidents, ultimately improving overall road safety across the province.
