Ranjender Meghwar from Sindh etched his name in history by becoming the first Pakistani Hindu to be appointed as an officer in the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) after clearing the highly competitive Central Superior Services (CSS) examination.
Hailing from Badin, Meghwar is currently posted as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Gulberg Circle, Faisalabad.
“By being in the police department, we can resolve people's issues on the ground, something we cannot achieve in other departments,” Meghwar shared with the media.
A Faisalabad Police spokesperson told a local news outlet, "It is an honor for us that a Hindu officer is providing his services in Faisalabad. His arrival in the police department has been warmly welcomed."
Although officers from various religious backgrounds serve in the police force, Meghwar's appointment marks the first time a Hindu officer has reached this position.
Rajendra Meghwar's father, Lalji, is a doctor. Rajendra completed his matriculation in his hometown before enrolling at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, where he earned a bachelor's degree in English literature.
After completing his bachelor's in December 2019, he moved to Lahore and prepared for the CSS examination for six months. He successfully passed the examination in 2021 and subsequently joined the police service.
Earlier this year, Meghwar performed duties during several matches at Gaddafi Stadium. However, his current appointment in Faisalabad marks his first regular posting in the police department.
