PIA and religious affairs ministry sign deal to reduce Hajj travel cost

In an effort to streamline Hajj operations for 2025, the Ministry of Religious Affairs have secured a deal with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to offer substantial airfare discounts for pilgrims.
Under this agreement, the airfare for a single pilgrim has been set at $800 (approximately Rs222,858), a decrease from the $850 charged in 2024.
According to the Ministry, as many as 35,000 pilgrims are expected to perform Hajj under the government quota and will travel with PIA, while others can use private airlines. Those opting for private travel can do so through travel agent packages.
The initiative aims to provide relief to low-income and middle-class citizens planning to go on Hajj.
Previously, the government announced an installment plan for hajj pilgrims for 2024, under which they would pay Rs1.1 million in three instalments.
Under the latest structure, the total expenses of Hajj Rs1.1 million will be paid in three instalments. Initially, an application deposit of Rs200,000 will be required.
The pilgrims will be selected via a lucky draw, after which the pilgrims will pay Rs400,000, and the remaining amount of Rs500,000 will be paid before departure.
The application period will run from November 18 to December 3, and the lucky draw for selection will be conducted on December 6.
Officials clarified that applicants must ensure their passports are valid until December 6, 2025, to be eligible.
