On the 10th day of Ramadan, Muslims recall Hazrat Khadija bint Khuwaylid, the first wife of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. She belongs to the most honored women in Islam because she kept firm faith and gave constant help during the first tough years of the spread of Islam.
Before her marriage, she ran a well-known trading business in Makkah plus was recognized for honesty in her business deals and open-handed charity. When the Prophet PBUH received the first revelation, she became the first person to declare belief in his message.
While many in Makkah rejected the teaching of one God, she stayed at his side, gave him calm assurance, supplied money but also never doubted his task. Her house turned into the first place where new Muslims learned the teachings and she used her property to serve Allah.
During the boycott that closed markets as well as cut family ties for the small muslim group in Makkah, she bore hunger and public scorn with steady patience.
She died on the 10th of Ramadan in the tenth year after the first revelation. Hazrat Khadijah and Abu Talib both passed away that year, it later became known as the “Year of Sorrow”. The Prophet grieved for her for the rest of his life or often spoke of her good qualities.
On her death anniversary, scholars and believers reflect on her unmatched loyalty, sacrifice, and devotion, qualities that continue to inspire generations especially women across the Muslim world.
