The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Friday announced that the moon for the month of Safar was not sighted anywhere in Pakistan.
As a result, 1st Safar 1447 AH will begin on Sunday, following the completion of 30 days of Muharram.
The announcement was made after a meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, held in Islamabad, with zonal committees reporting from various parts of the country.
Following the announcement, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has also issued a notification.
Earlier, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) also predicted slim chances of moon visibility due to monsoon clouds and astronomical conditions.
While the new moon was expected to be born in the early hours of July 25, experts say visibility conditions are not favorable for it to be seen that evening.
SUPARCO has reported that the new moon was born on July 25 at 12:11 AM PST.
By the time of sunset on the same day, the moon’s age was approximately 19 hours and 31 minutes, which generally meets the threshold for potential visibility.
