Seven people have lost their lives in Karachi within 24 hours due to collisions with heavy vehicles, including trucks and dumpers. This spate of accidents sparked calls for urgent action to improve road safety in the city amidst the notoriously unruly traffic.
In one such incident, a motorcycle collided with a trailer parked on the Jam Sadiq Bridge in the Korangi area, tragically killing both the motorcyclist and his young son.
The family collided with a parked trailer on the Jam Sadiq Bridge while returning from Korangi Allahwala Town. The father and 3-year-old child sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The mother, however, survived the accident.
Police said that the trailer had broken down, so its driver had parked it on the bridge and left. Due to the darkness, Rizwa [Assuming Rizwa is the name of the motorcyclist] did not see the parked trailer while driving the motorcycle and collided with it.
According to rescue officials, seven people, including a child, lost their lives in traffic accidents within the city in the past 24 hours. All of these deaths resulted from collisions with trucks or dumpers.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori stated that if the illegal operation of dumpers continues, he would take action that "would be remembered by all."
He questioned why, if these dumpers were operating outside the law, the DIG Traffic could not explain why the law was not being enforced.
Kamran Tesori said, "I will undoubtedly pursue legal action on these matters. Are the children of this city orphans to be killed in this manner? Enough is enough. I will not tolerate this any longer."
