The Pakistan Metrological Department on Tuesday said there are strong chances that the Shawwal moon will be sighted today in Pakistan.

The Met Office, in its advisory, said the new moon was born last night (April 8) at 11:21pm and it could be sighted for 50 minutes today after the sunset.

The weather department said the sky in most parts of the country would be clear.

If the moon is sighted, then people across the country will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on April 10 (Wednesday).

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to meet today for the sighting of the Eidul Fitr moon, according to a statement from the religious affairs ministry.

The meeting is set to be held at the Religious Affairs Ministry in Islamabad and will be presided over by Ruet-e-Halal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

The meetings of the zonal committees will be held at designated locations across the country.
