The Sindh cabinet on Monday approved a one-year extension of Rangers’ deployment in Karachi, allowing the paramilitary force to continue assisting police under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to a spokesperson for the Sindh chief minister, the fresh extension will take effect from December 9, 2025, enabling Rangers to retain their existing powers as they support law-enforcement operations in the city.

The decisions came during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The meeting also approved new water tariffs for the DHA pipeline project. Under the new pricing, the water rate for DHA will be reduced from Rs0.85 per gallon to Rs0.60 per gallon.

Officials briefed the cabinet that the revised rate came after negotiations between KWSB and DHA, and the payment period will remain 10 years. The adjustment, they said, aims to ensure the project’s financial sustainability while keeping costs manageable for DHA.

The cabinet further approved a carbon finance strategy to redevelop brownfield sites. The Energy Department proposed establishing solar parks and wind farms on old industrial areas.
