In a decisive move to enhance road safety and reduce traffic incidents, the Sindh government has announced the establishment of Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) centres for the licensing and inspection of heavy vehicles. The decision was taken in line with an effort to check the physical fitness of the heavy traffic amidst increasing fatal accidents.

Sindh’s Minister of Information and Transportation, Sharjeel Inam Memon, chaired a meeting that reviewed the strategies and stressed the faster establishment of MVI centres.

Sharjeel Memon said that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah issued directions regarding the MVI system's implementation and vehicle registration. The MVI centres should be fully functional within a month.

Memon said that the Sindh CM also directed mandatory motor vehicle inspections for dumpers, trucks, buses, and trailers.

At least ten MVI centres will be established in the province, including four in Karachi and Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Shaheed Benazirabad division each would have one.

Sharjeel Memon emphasised the importance of vehicle safety standards and instructed that the concerned vehicle must be inspected to ensure it is roadworthy before being allowed to operate on the road.

He stated that decisive actions would be taken against vehicles without fitness certificates, including registering cases resulting in imprisonment.
