Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah Wednesday said that the PPP government would announce an education policy for transgenders in the province.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Shah said education policy for transgenders will ensure learning opportunities for the community.

The minister acknowledged that due to social biases and lack of proper education, transgender individuals often miss out on employment opportunities.

Highlighting the inclusivity of the Transgender Education Policy, the minister said that non-formal and technical education will also be integral components of the policy besides formal education.

The minister also stated that 50% of the schools in Sindh have been destroyed by floods. Unlike Punjab, which did not experience floods or heavy rains, Sindh has faced severe damage, he added.

Sindh minister further said that the infrastructure of many government schools is no longer fit for teaching children.

“We don’t have enough ADP (Annual Development Program) funds to repair all the damaged schools,” Sardar Shah added.
