In a significant development, driving licence branches in Sindh started issuing international driving permits, said the official on Saturday.
Sindh’s driving licence holders could also apply for the permit through an online platform, whether they are out of the country.
“Not only the Clifton branch, but all eleven branches across the province are providing this facility to the citizen,” said DIG training and licencing Iqbal Dara.
He said the international permits are being provided in Hyderabad, Nawab Shah, Mirpur Khas, Sukkur, Larakana, and six branches in Karachi.
“We have issued 693 permits from the DL Clifton branch till Thursday, while 52 permits were provided from DL Hyderabad, DL Korangi 23, and one each from the Malir and Saeedabad branches,” he said.
As many as 104 licences were issued from the Nazimabad branch, while PFC South provided 65 international driving permits.
So far, only two applicants obtained permits for the online facility.
“Citizens who possess a valid driving licence can avail of the facility with visiting branches; the permit will be delivered to them by courier service."
DIG Dara said that an online system is available for depositing a Rs1,088 fee for the issuance of international driving permits.
