The Sindh government has announced that all public educational institutions in the province will remain closed on January 28 to observe Shab-e-Miraj.

The holiday was declared in honor of the Night of Ascent, which commemorates the Isra and Mairaj, the miraculous journey and ascension of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to meet Allah Almighty.

Shab-e-Miraj, observed on the 27th of Rajab according to the Islamic lunar calendar, marks the Prophet's journey across the seven skies on the heavenly animal 'al-Buraq,' culminating in his nearness to the Throne of Allah.

This event is also the occasion when the command for the five daily prayers (Salat) was given to Muslims.

Muslims across the world observe the night by offering special prayers at mosques, beginning after Isha and continuing until Fajr.

In addition, various gatherings and Mahafil-e-Naat are held to honor the occasion.

The streets, homes, and mosques are often adorned with colorful decorations, and many people visit the graves of loved ones to pray for their departed souls.
