The Sindh government has announced a plan to expand its public transportation system in the upcoming fiscal year 2025–26 by purchasing additional buses and allocating a dedicated budget for electric vehicle (EV) taxis and scooters.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, MD Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kamal Dayo, CEO Trans Karachi Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, and other key officials.
The meeting included a comprehensive review of ongoing and future projects under the department, such as the People’s Bus Service, EV scooters, and the broader development of mass transit in the province.
Officials also discussed plans to establish charging infrastructure for EVs at key locations across Sindh.

Senior Minister Memon was briefed on the department’s performance during fiscal year 2024–25 and consulted on the proposed initiatives for FY2025–26, which included the introduction of new bus services under public-private partnerships and the arrival of more buses, including double-decker buses, aimed at enhancing mobility for Karachi’s growing population.
One of the key infrastructure updates shared during the meeting was the completion of the Jam Sadiq Bridge, an essential component of the Yellow Line BRT project. The bridge is now ready for inauguration next month.
Progress on the Red Line BRT was also reviewed, with directives issued to accelerate its completion.
Speaking at the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to building a modern, environmentally sustainable public transport system.

“We are constantly working to provide eco-friendly and affordable travel options to our people,” he said.
Memon emphasised that successful initiatives like the EV Bus Project and People’s Bus Service are already transforming public transport in Karachi, and efforts are underway to extend these services to all areas of the city and eventually, across Sindh.
“We want every citizen in Karachi and across the province to have access to safe, modern, and regulated public transport facilities,” he added.
