In the aftermath of a tragic flash flood in Swat that claimed the lives of several tourists, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has taken strict disciplinary action against multiple government officials for alleged negligence and mismanagement.
According to CM’s spokesperson Faraz Mughal, an initial review revealed serious lapses in emergency response and preparedness, prompting the immediate suspension of key district and rescue personnel.
Among those suspended are:
The Assistant Commissioner of Babuzai, cited for a delayed and ineffective response during the crisis.
The Assistant Commissioner of Khawazakhela, removed for failing to issue timely alerts despite available weather warnings.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner (Relief), suspended for neglecting preventive arrangements that could have mitigated the disaster.
The Rescue 1122 District In-Charge, who has been suspended due to inadequate preparedness and a poorly coordinated response.

In addition to the suspensions, CM Gandapur has directed the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The inquiry will aim to uncover the full extent of administrative failures and hold all responsible parties accountable.
“The Chief Minister has made it absolutely clear—anyone found guilty of compromising public safety will face strict consequences,” Mughal stated. He also noted that further suspensions and legal action could follow pending the outcome of the inquiry.
The tragic event has raised serious concerns about disaster preparedness and early warning systems in the province, especially in tourist-heavy areas during the monsoon season.
