PML-Q legislator Tariq Bashir Cheema issued an apology to PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council's MNA Zartaj Gul after a confrontation between the two leaders in the National Assembly.
This development followed NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq's intervention, who resolved the issue with dignity. Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan expressed gratitude to the speaker for his role in resolving the matter.
Confirming the reconciliation, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, alongside Gul, informed journalists that Cheema had apologized, and Gul had accepted it.
Earlier that day, chaos erupted in the lower house of parliament when Cheema, after concluding his speech, approached Gul and allegedly used offensive language towards her. Cheema's outburst was triggered by Gul's references to the Islamia University of Bahawalpur scandal during his speech.
The scandal, involving allegations of drugs and sexual harassment of female students, supposedly implicated Cheema's son and gained attention in July of the previous year. Cheema denied the reports, asserting he would take action if his son was proven guilty.
The altercation between Gul and Cheema prompted the former ruling party to consider filing a first information report (FIR) against Cheema.
Cheema's inappropriate remarks towards Gul drew ire from PTI lawmakers, who attempted to confront him before being stopped by MNAs from the ruling alliance.
