Following an out-of-court settlement between the victims of the Karsaz accident and the accused, netizens expressed widespread disappointment with the justice system, asserting that the privileged classes always evade punishment for their crimes, which emboldens further disregard for the law.
Earlier today, a local court in Karachi approved the bail of the suspect after the parties involved in the case reached a settlement.
The Karsaz accident victims' lawyer, Barrister Uzair Ghouri, has denied rumours that the family of the deceased Amina Arif and Imran Arif have accepted Rs5 crore in diyat.
He maintained that the victims' family has forgiven the accused driver Natasha for "Allah's sake".
The accused driver, Natasha, allegedly a member of the prominent Gul Ahmed family, was involved in a car accident on August 19 that resulted in the tragic deaths of a father and daughter and left four others injured.
Outraged by the crime, civil society and activists rallied behind their families and called for the suspect to be held accountable.
Initially, the victims' families were determined to seek justice and refused to settle with the suspect.
However, the news of a compromise between the parties involved in the case left many feeling disheartened.
Social media users urged the state to intervene in the case and pursue further legal action against the accused, even after the victims' family had pardoned her.
Many drew parallels between the Karsaz car accident and a histroy of similar cases, where influential suspects had successfully eluded punishment through the use of their resources, money, or intimidation tactics.
Journalist Iqrar-ul-Hassan stated that he was not surprised by the settlement between the parties in the Karsaz accident case.
He had previously predicted that Natasha Danish would not face any repercussions and would ultimately be acquitted without serving any prison time.

“Diyat discourse is a dishonest red herring. It gets her off the hook for manslaughter but the state can still prosecute her for traffic violations, drug use and DUI (driving under the influence). Diyat doesn't cover those. Real issue has always been the state's intent (or lack thereof) to go after the powerful,” an X user stated.

Money can buy anything—even freedom after taking lives. Natasha, free despite killing two people and using drugs. Her words echo in our minds:

Natasha, who killed people while under the influence of drugs and left many critically injured, is now a free woman. Pakistan is a country for the 2-3% rich; it is made for them, not for the poor. This was expected. Kia kr saktay hain! 🥲 with the attitude which she had, she should have been punished to set an example, but unfortunately, this country has laws of diyyat! Even a murderer is set free.

Murder and manslaughter are crimes against the state – there is Islamic jurisprudence on the subject.
Until judges reject compromise and lawmakers reform the code, the rich and powerful will continue to sidestep punishment.https://t.co/XadVFJWi8N
