The Karachi Traffic Police on Sunday launched automated enforcement of lane discipline on Shahrah-e-Faisal through the TRACS tracking system, following the completion of a month-long public awareness campaign.

According to a statement issued by the traffic police, road users had been informed about the lane management plan through various media platforms over the past month. With the awareness phase now concluded, strict implementation began on June 1.

Under the lane management plan, commercial vehicles and motorcycles are required to use the two leftmost lanes designated for their movement. Fast-moving private vehicles, including cars, jeeps and double-cabin vehicles, are prohibited from using these lanes, which have been reserved for commercial and slower-moving traffic.

The traffic police said the rightmost lane and the second lane from the right are reserved exclusively for fast-moving private vehicles to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

The statement further explained that Shahrah-e-Faisal consists of three lanes in some sections and four lanes in others. In stretches where the carriageway has three lanes, the middle lane may be used by both commercial and private vehicles depending on traffic conditions.

Authorities said all lane violations would now be processed through automated faceless e-ticketing using the TRACS system, eliminating manual discretion in enforcement.
