The death toll from road traffic incidents in Karachi exceeded over 50 in the first month of 2025, following two recent casualties reported in the wee hours of Saturday, according to rescue sources. 

 

Rescue sources reported that two individuals were killed in separate accidents in Karachi. The first incident occurred at Karachi’s Al-Asif Square, where an unidentified vehicle hit a 32-year-old man, who was walking near the pedestrian bridge, leaving him with severe injuries.

He was immediately shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds. Rescue sources said that the victim has not yet been identified.

Meanwhile, another 35-year-old man was killed in an accident on the National Highway, on the road linking Razzaqabad to Port Qasim. His body was taken to Jinnah Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Rescue officials said that the deceased was a commuter, who was hit by an unknown vehicle, and remains unidentified.

The police launched a probe into both accidents.

Notably, Karachi has witnessed a surge in road accidents, attributed to the increasing presence of heavy vehicles on city roads during the daytime

Earlier, the Chhipa Foundation had released a sobering report detailing the number of fatalities and injuries in Karachi due to traffic accidents, robbery resistance, and aerial firing during the first 15 days of January.

According to the foundation, 36 citizens lost their lives in various traffic accidents, while 528 others, including children, elderly, and young adults, sustained injuries.

These alarming figures highlight the growing menace of road mishaps in the city, which continue to endanger lives daily.
