Following a devastating suicide bombing in the federal capital Islamabad, the United States has issued a new security alert for Pakistan.

The US State Department released a security advisory after the Islamabad attack, urging American citizens travelling to or residing in Pakistan to exercise heightened caution.

According to the advisory, US nationals have been advised to avoid public gatherings and to review and update their personal security plans.

The State Department also urged citizens to closely monitor local media for the latest developments regarding the security situation.

It may be recalled that two days ago, a suicide bomber struck during Friday prayers in the outskirts of Islamabad’s Tarlai Kalan area, killing 33 people and injuring more than 150 others.
