The world will not celebrate the New Year simultaneously due to varying time zones. As a result, the United States will be the last country to welcome 2025, while other nations will already be ushering in the new year.

Time zones across the world are based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), with countries following different time differences relative to it.

The first country to ring in the New Year will be Kiritimati Island or Christmas Island, along with 10 other uninhabited islands. These islands will be the first to witness the sunset of 2024.

Island nations like Tonga, New Zealand, and Samoa will experience the last sunset of 2024, before Eastern Australia marks the last sundown of this year. Central Australia will follow shortly afterward.

On the other side of the world, Britain’s remote islands, including Baker Island and Howland Island, both largely uninhabited, will be the last to witness the arrival of 2025.

The United States will be the final country to celebrate the New Year, with New York and Washington, DC, experiencing the climax of 2024 after the rest of the world has already entered 2025.

Pakistan, positioned further east, will be one of the first countries to greet 2025, as the sun will set at 7:00 pm local time. In comparison, India will welcome the new year at 6:30 pm.
