Sindh Minister for Excise, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, announced that starting April 3, vehicles without the newly designed Ajrak number plates will not be allowed to operate in the province.

The decision was made during an implementation meeting chaired by Chawla, who also oversees taxation and narcotics control.

The meeting was attended by Secretary Excise Muhammad Saleem Rajput, DIG Traffic Police Karachi Ahmed Nawaz, officers from the National Highway Authority (NHA), Safe City, and other relevant officials.

During the briefing, Chawla emphasized the need for a joint action plan to address the payment of fines for violations related to motor vehicle taxes and traffic rules.

To streamline the process, Chawla proposed the establishment of counter desks at the Civic Center and Excise Department Facilitation Centers for one-window operations.

This will facilitate the timely issuance of new number plates through traffic police checkpoints.

He also instructed that traffic police personnel be deployed at road check points and emphasized collaboration between traffic police and the Excise Department to integrate traffic challans and Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) taxes.

The Excise Department will assist the traffic police by providing records of outstanding challans.
