Karachi residents, who have been facing water scarcity for weeks, can now breathe a sigh of relief as the main water pipeline on University Road has been repaired and is ready to resume water supply, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) announced on Friday.

A KWSC spokesperson confirmed that repair work on the 84-inch water pipeline, which crosses the route of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project on University Road, has been completed. The pipeline had suffered three consecutive leakages, leading to a disruption in water supply.

With the completion of the repair work, 12 pumps have been restarted to restore the water supply to areas surrounding University Road. Additionally, the water supply from the Dhabeji Pumping Station has been fully restored.

The pipeline burst on November 29, during construction work for the BRT Red Line project, and the subsequent leakages caused significant water loss.

The issue led to the shutdown of several Dhabeji water pumps and disrupted water supply to various areas, including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Mosmiyat, Safoora, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Bahadurabad, and several parts of Saddar, Lyari, and Garden.

As a result of the pipeline burst, Karachi faced a daily shortage of 150 million gallons of water, despite multiple repair attempts.
