The White House has said that US officials are set to travel to Pakistan for a second round of discussions with Iran, as diplomatic activity intensifies.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Friday that US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner would depart for Pakistan on Saturday to take part in a second round of talks with Iran.
Earlier, media reports said that Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was expected to reach Islamabad later in the day, accompanied by a small delegation. They said another round of negotiations with the United States was likely, adding that a US logistics and security team had already arrived in the federal capital.
Separately, Iranian state media also confirmed the visit, saying Araghchi would hold “bilateral consultations” during his trip.
“Iran’s foreign minister will begin a regional tour on Friday evening, April 24, travelling to Islamabad, Muscat and Moscow,” the official IRNA reported.
“The purpose of this trip is to hold bilateral consultations, discuss ongoing developments in the region, and review the latest situation regarding the war imposed by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran,” it added.
