Zardari orders emergency monsoon preparedness as flood risks rise

President Asif Ali Zardari has directed federal, provincial, and local authorities to strengthen coordinated preparedness, rescue, and relief efforts as Pakistan enters a critical phase of the monsoon season. 

The move comes amid growing concerns over flash floods, cloudbursts, glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), landslides, river flooding, and urban flooding in vulnerable areas.

In a statement issued by the President’s Secretariat, President Zardari expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and damage to homes, infrastructure, and property caused by recent rain-related incidents. 

The president directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), provincial disaster management authorities (PDMAs), and local administrations to maintain close coordination and ensure the timely sharing of early warnings. 

Authorities have been directed to pre-position rescue and relief resources, protect vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure, and take measures to safeguard tourists and visitors in areas at risk of flash floods, GLOFs, and landslides.
