Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology Limited (SSST), a Chinese space technology company, has officially registered in Pakistan with plans to launch a low-orbit satellite constellation aimed at providing high-speed internet and satellite communication services.

SSST's initiative, referred to as "G60 Starlink," aims to rival Elon Musk's Starlink, offering global coverage and fast connectivity.

SSST launched 108 satellites last year and plans to deploy 648 by the end of 2025, with a goal of 15,000 satellites by 2030.

The company’s constellation will be powered by over 1,000 satellites and is expected to provide global network coverage by 2027.

Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja confirmed SSST’s registration in the National Assembly, noting that only locally registered companies can apply for PTA licenses. SSST, along with Starlink, has submitted applications for a PTA license.

Backed by the Shanghai municipal government, SSST aims to create a new "satellite internet" infrastructure.

In comparison, Starlink, which has launched over 6,400 satellites, is expanding its network and plans to reach 12,000 satellites. Experts predict intense competition in the growing space-based broadband market.
