A student of the University of Lahore died on Friday committing suicide by falling from the fourth floor of a university campus building in an incident that authorities are investigating, with suicide being considered as the only possible angle.
The student, identified as Awais Sultan, was studying at the department of Pharmacy at UOL, suffered critical injuries following the fall. Rescue officials rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The incident caused panic and distress among students and staff present on campus at the time. Police have launched an inquiry to establish whether the incident was an accident or a deliberate act.
According to reports, Awais Sultan’s alleged suicide attempt was reportedly linked to academic pressure, as teachers had not permitted him to appear in the final examination due to low attendance and he had being forced to repeat the semester.
So far, the University of Lahore has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
According to details circulating on social media, Awais Sultan was a fifth-semester student in the Department of Pharmacy. A video that surfaced online shows university staff and security personnel gathered at the location where the incident occurred.
After the incident occurred, the university normalized it and carried on with the International food festival with music and enjoyment in the same courtyard.
