Pakistan will launch an advanced hyperspectral satellite in October to strengthen research capabilities in natural resource management and environmental monitoring, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) announced on Monday.
According to Suparco Chairman Muhammad Yousaf Khan, the satellite will enable detailed analysis of underground mineral resources and provide crucial data for agriculture, forestry, and wildlife conservation. It will also be used in monitoring floods, glacier melting, air pollution, and smog.
“The hyperspectral satellite, scheduled for launch next month, will analyze different wavelengths of light reflected from the Earth’s surface, generating precise information about minerals, vegetation, soil, and water quality,” Khan said.
Officials said the technology is expected to enhance Pakistan’s capacity for scientific research, disaster preparedness, and sustainable development planning.
